Word and Excel: Switching between languages

There have been several instances of students asking for help because "suddenly and unexpectedly" when they type in Word or Excel instead of English the text is showing up as Chinese or Arabic or something else. Once the language has changed even typing in filenames during the save option will show up as non-English text, which can be very worrisome for students!
It turns out there is a keyboard shortcut of ALT+SHIFT that switches between keyboard layouts. If that shortcut gets activated then the text would immediately switch to something else.
Pressing ALT+SHIFT again will move you through the list of different layouts, of which there are probably a number from 7 to 10 installed. Eventually you'll get back to "English (Canada)" which is the default.
Another way to quickly switch back to what you want is to left-click on the blue EN icon (found in the bottom right area of the task bar at the bottom of the screen) and choose the language you want.
